Why are we - evangelising and teaching evangelism?
People need to know that God exists and, although he is a loving God, his nature demands justice. In fact, love without justice isn't real love. Because of our disobedience, we have nothing in ourselves to redeem us. No matter how good we think we are, God demands perfection and on our own, we can never be perfect. When we come to this realisation, repent and put our trust in the only human ever to be born with no original sin, born of a virgin, live a sinless life, suffered and died in our place then rose from the dead to prove that he has power over death, we will be saved. This person is Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, the creator of the universe. What is the alternative? - Justice. We may think that because justice has not been served yet, that it never will be, however God has appointed a day when justice will be served, it will be swift and it will be final.
If for no other reason, we evangelise because God commands us to go into all the world and make disciples - Mark 16:15, Matthew 28:19. Before you can make a disciple, you have to make a Christian, although it is not us making the Christian, it is the Holy Spirit. Because 'God commands', is of course not the only reason to evangelise, but it is a compelling reason. Another reason is that without evangelism, the Church would cease to exist. God has chosen to include Christians in the task of spreading the good news.
One of the reasons Christians don't evangelise is fear, another is lack of skills. This is why Christian's need to be trained and equipped to share this good news with a world destined for judgement. Fear can be overcome, and skills can be learnt. The day and time we do not know, but be assured God's patience will not last forever, nor will we. 150,000 people die every day and most did not expect to. If you know Jesus, you should be telling this Good News of salvation to everybody you come into contact with. If you don't know how, join our training group. If you do know how - do it.
We generally train during the winter and share the Good News in the summer using Door 2 Door Questionnaire Evangelism.
The main two documents we use are;
Spirituality Questionnaire.pdf to start the discussion and find out the present spriritual views the person holds, then;
when we come across a professing Christian, we use;
Questions for Christians.pdf so that the person can test their own faith is genuine.
If you want to join with us, just ask and we will do what we can to equip you for the role of Evangelism. You don't need the gift of Evangelism to share the gospel, but you may need training or encouragement.
If you really do think you are unable to talk with people about the gospel of Jesus Christ, why not carry Gospel Tracts with you so that you are ready to hand them to people you come into contact with. All sorts of people need to know the gospel message, people at the service station, shop assistants, friends, family, neighbours, and a tract is a perfect why to put the message into somebody's hands in a non-threatening way. You can get tracts from Greg, David, the foyer of our church or from Trevor and Susan at http://www.tracts4u.org.
That is: Why we are evangelising and why we teach evangelism - to make disciples and equip the church (Ephesians 4:11-12) – that’s you if you are a Christian.
